All the best,
Don

Hey Justin,
I just wanted to drop you a few lines to thank you for all of you help over the past months. I don't know how I would have reached my goal weight for entering the Navy if it wasn't for your help. Training at The Better You has helped me get into the best shape of my life and enjoy all of the aspects of physical fitness. The Better You Fitness Studio is truly a great place to work out. The gym has a very personal feel and the trainers truly have a personal stake in your success. I would recommend The Better You to anyone who was interested in personal training and physical fitness or just for a great place to work out with a great atmosphere. Thanks again Justin for all of your help.
Tom

Justin,
My dedication to fitness in years past has fluctuated wildly. I would run and lift weights really hard for several months, enter a few races, run a few marathons. When I worked hard, I got results, but I always let myself slide backwards. Sometimes I got lazy, sometimes family or work was overwhelming and I just let it all go. In February 2009, I was at a really low point. My fitness had fallen completely off my list of priorities. I was overweight, tired and cranky all the time and my self-esteem was in the basement. For months, I passed your gym every day on my way home from the train. I finally gathered enough courage to admit I needed help and came to you. Right from the start, your cheerfulness, enthusiasm and encouragement helped me accomplish my goal of losing weight and becoming stronger. You invest yourself in your clients 100%. Even though I want to quit or whine when it gets hard, I feel I owe you nothing less than the 100% you give me. In addition to your winning personality (yes, winning!) you create some of the most challenging and interesting workouts. We’re always doing something new and different, which keeps it exciting. Most of all, since February, I can pinpoint several events, both work and family related, that in the past, would have been a great excuse to stop working out. During each of these periods, coming back to you helped keep me motivated, stay on track and continue to make progress. I feel great and look forward to making even more progress with your continued guidance. Thank you for all that you do!

In April of 2009, I found myself at the clothing store looking for a new pair of jeans. It seemed that my old pairs were getting a little too tight around the waist and I had to get something a bit bigger. It was then that I realized something that I didn’t want to truly acknowledge: I was overweight. Luckily for me there was help not too far from where I lived.
I was very scared of going into a gym. I wasn’t sure if I would fit in or what the rules of etiquette were or what the people there were like. I was afraid of how I might be treated there because of my being out of shape and overweight. Plus I was afraid of ticking off someone that looked like they could lift a bus. But I had to do something for myself and throwing all fears aside I stepped into The Better You Fitness Center.
Luckily for me it was quiet at that time I entered the Better You. I got to take a look at what was there and at some of the equipment. Then I got a look at the guy working behind the counter. This guy was at least a foot taller than me with biceps bigger than my head. I had never seen anyone that built and that in shape in person before. I was intimidated, yet in awe at the same time.
Justin Stasny welcomed me into his gym with a smile and a firm handshake and asked what he could do for me. I told him the truth. I was overweight and out of shape and needed some help. He spoke to me about several of the things his gym had to offer such as personal training with the equipment and classes that ranged from simple cardio to martial arts fitness. He also spoke about the gym being a family style training area where anyone, not just gung-ho lifters, could work out peacefully. I told him I needed to think about it because I was a bit unsure of the gym scene. He understood where I was coming from. He told me most of the clients he had started out the same way but quickly and easily grew comfortable with the surroundings. At the end of our talk, he gave me his card and a pamphlet for me to look at and hoped he helped answer my questions. As I left I didn’t feel as scared as when I first went in. I had a feeling I would go back.
Two weeks later I did go back, and to my surprise, Justin remembered me. He asked what was going on and I told him that I wanted to sign up for some training. With that, he and I hammered out what I was going to do. He was very flexible with the schedule that I needed and even got me enrolled in a boxing fitness class. I was rather excited now and couldn’t wait until my first day.
That first day came the following Monday and I was as prepared as I could be, meaning I was nervous as hell. He welcomed me and we started out by doing a few essential things, like weigh me. I was at 180 pounds on that first day and at being only five foot four, 180 was too big. He told me he had seen worse and how easily my weight could be controlled. Then he told me he had to run a few tests on me.
The first thing he had me do was see how fast I could run a mile. I did it in fifteen minutes, which he said wasn’t bad for a start. I would have been grateful to hear that had I not been gasping for air and trying to hold down my breakfast. I was so out of shape that I was embarrassed by it. He comforted me by saying it was nothing to be ashamed of and I should be proud because I took the first and most important step to getting into shape. That got me motivated to continue, no matter how I felt. We finished that day with me thankful to have survived the start of my gym experience.
I will honestly say that the first two months were a bit rough. Justin was targeting many muscles that I rarely used and strengthening the ones I used all the time while trying to increase my stamina. I would find myself sore to the point in which I could barely move the day after. The boxing classes, taught by Ken Battinus, had me winded after every class and I was struggling to keep myself going. It hurt to the point where I wanted to quit but neither trainer wouldn’t let me do that. The phrase is true: no pain no gain. You have to want it that much and being at The Better You made it possible for me to want it.
As I fought through the tough times, I started to notice a few things. The first and most important thing I noticed was the pants I wore were getting a bit too big for me. I quickly jumped on the scale to see that I had indeed lost weight. The second thing was I started to actually see definition in my body. My legs looked stronger, my arms were bigger and my waist was getting smaller. I may have been hurting, but I was seeing the results that I wanted to see which meant that what we were doing was working. Pain or not I had to keep going.
A few months later I was a regular at the gym. I felt comfortable going in and meeting the people that were there. Justin continued to focus on my strength training and muscle development and Ken helped to increase my stamina and endurance. I had no pain after the workouts anymore and felt energized even when I left. I was truly amazed at how much I had changed since I started at The Better You and how much more I could accomplish. I learned quite a bit too from the trainers there, not just how to use equipment but how to really take care of myself and keep my body the way I want it.
In the end I never imagined I could get the results that I have gotten. With the help of the trainers and the encouragement and instructions they gave me, I do feel that I am in the best shape of my life. I owe them a lot to my success and I thank them every time I step into the gym.
Thank you Better You for making me a better me.

Over the years I have wasted thousands of dollars at mega-fitness centers. From my few experiences I remember having an enthusiastic “trainer” who would “set me up” with a routine on my first visit and would then disappear, usually back to the sales office. I have tried smaller centers, but I still found it hard to stay motivated after a few weeks’ time. When "The Better You" studio opened up in my neighborhood I decided to look in to it simply because of its convenient location. When I met Justin Stasny I was pleased that he didn’t give me ‘the sales pitch’ or pressure for me to sign a contract. He listened to me. I very impressed with his expertise in the field, but most importantly, I became aware of his sincerity and focus in setting and achieving my personal fitness goals.
Having been on a downhill slide since my Army days, I was in terrible shape. When I decided to make my personal commitment to fitness, Justin did a very thorough job of evaluating me. He helped me to set reasonable nutritional and fitness goals, and combined just the right amount of pressure and encouragement to keep me moving forward….especially when I’m not under his watchful eye! Justin has delivered in every way. He has provided structure to my routine, the reasoning and science behind what I am doing, and, most importantly, results!
Mike
